The main dashboard graph works pretty well, but I have a couple of issues. Maybe there are workarounds that I don’t see.
Granularity - When viewing by day, there is one data point for each hour, but when I switch to show any range more than one day, I just get one data point for each day. From a trends standpoint, it would be nice to see more data points at least up to one week (24x7) or possibly even a month (24x30). I’m guessing performance implications might be a factor in limiting the data. I do see the heat map at the bottom (which does have 24x7 data points) but it’s not quite the same since it doesn’t include actual numbers.
Drilling down from hours to minutes - When you are looking at the day view of the graph, you can click on the hour to drill down into the breakdown by minutes. Nice, but… 1) It is not labelled which hour you are viewing. 2) You can’t easily go back or forward one hour. 3) You can’t go back up one level to the hour view without going to the date picker menu. The day you were just viewing may not be a recent date, so now you have to navigate back to that date again.
Regarding your first point, you can select the data granularity from the date/period selection. It’s right at the top (Day, Week, Month, Year).
Regarding your second point, I’ll create a ticket for the next release to include something. We’ll have to see how we can implement your mentioned UX improvements, but we’ll do our best
Yes, I do see the date/period selection, but if I choose “Past 7 Days”, I just get 7 data points, one for each day. It’s nice to see at a glance how traffic trends throughout the week in one view, so it would be helpful to have a data point that represents one hour of time, which is what I meant by 24x7 (or 168 data points). I do see the corresponding Weekdays “heatmap” at the bottom, but it is not as helpful since it does not have a scale.
Probably more feedback than you wanted, but you don’t get what you don’t ask for. Thanks for your consideration.
I do want to say that I really like the analytics so I hope I don’t come across as not being happy with how well thought out it is and how easy it is to use! The server-side integration is what I’m really enjoying.
It would need to be somewhat limited, because we don’t really want to load hourly statistics for an entire year for example. But for a week or a month I think we can make this work.
